
Four military personnel, an immigration officer, and a private security guard were all remanded into police custody by the Koforidua Circuit Court B for armed robbery in Akyem Akanteng in the Lower West Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The defendants are L/Cpl Tetteh Wayo, 43, and Sergeant Mensah Dominic, 41, all of whom are assigned to the Jubilee House. L/CPL Nyarko Bernard, who served for 28 years in the ABF’s Tamale Command Unit, and PTE Eric Anim, who served for 23 years at the 11th Mechanized Infantry Battalion in Accra, are both on leave at the moment.
Richard Okyere/L.C.O. a 28-year-old private security guard at the 5th Hour Mining Company in Akyem Akwatia, and a 27-year-old immigration officer assigned to the Ministry of Interior.
The prosecution claims that on November 10, 2023, Richard Okyere, the immigration officer in charge of a Mitsubishi L200 with registration number GS-1116-11, picked up the two military officers at their Jubilee House duty post in accordance with their plan. He then went on to pick up the other two military men at Pokuase and the final suspect at Asamankese before making his way to Akyem Akanteng.
On November 11, 2023, at three in the morning, a group of suspects wearing military uniforms and equipped with military rifles broke into the residence of the complainant, Ofori Samuel, a 55-year-old purchasing clerk at Akyem Akanteng, demanding GH¢100,000.00 while threatening to kill him.
Fearful of the guns, the complainant said he had no money but could provide them 10,000, which could be financed by selling a 5 gram gold mine he possessed that was worth GH¢ 29,000. After forcing the complainant inside his room and stealing the gold, the suspects fled.
The complainant reported the robbery event right away to the police commander of Akwatia and an officer at Osenase. However, the suspects’ luck ran out when they were caught by the authorities at the Osenase police checkpoint.
After the suspects were brought to the Akwatia Police Station, two military weapons with the serial numbers A0082460 and A0056937, four magazines, 62 rounds of live ammo, and a helmet were taken from them.
The prosecution claims that when the accused were being questioned by the District Commander in front of other police officers, the first accused individual gave the commander the five pounds of gold ore that the complainant had earlier claimed the accused had stolen from him.
The RCID, Kibi took custody of the docket and the five pounds of gold exhibit described above that same day for additional investigations.
The accused individuals’ Mitsubishi L200, registered under the license plate GS 1116-11, has been impounded at the Eastern South Regional Headquarters for further investigation.
The prosecution added that on receipt of the case docket, all the various Departments of the accused persons were informed accordingly.
The suspects who have been charged with two counts, that is, Conspiracy to commit crime to wit robbery and robbery were remanded by the court presided over by Matilda Ribeiro to reappear on November 28th, 2023 after prosecution Assistant State Attorney Micdad Iddrisu prayed the court to remand the suspects to enable the police continue their investigations.
